On the left is Erich Ludendorff, who was a German general that was involved in the battle of Amiens. He was born on April 9th, 1865. He lead his troops through multiple victories, such as the battle of Tannenburg, however the allies had launched a surprise attack on Amiens. He was unable to quickly respond to the attack, which caused the Germans to suffer heavily. Soon after the battle, he realized that they had not only lost this battle, but predicted that they would lose the war. Shortly after the battle of Amiens, the war came to its conclusion, and Germany lost. On the right is Henry Rawlinson, was the fourth army commander who helped lead the allies to victory during the battle of Amiens. He was born on February 20th, 1864. He had already plenty war experience against the Germans, as he showed in the battle of Somme and in 1917, he was promoted to General. Him, along with several other generals and their men, comprised of 75,000 men ready for battle at Amiens. He deceived the Germans through false messages, and because of his cleverness, it allowed the allies to have the upper hand during this all out offensive attack. |
Arthur Currie was was a Canadian military general, who also took part in the battle of Amiens. He was born on December 5th, 1875. He was very experienced in war and had already participated in previous battles and continued to do so even after Amiens. His knowledge and experience carried over in the battle of Amiens, and in doing so led the Canadian corps to victory. He lead the Canadian He died November 30th, 1933 and had a wife, as well as two kids. John Salmond was in charge of the Royal Air-Force during WW1. He was born on July 17th, 1881. In January, 1933, he gained his title as Martial of the Royal Air-Force. During the battle of Amiens, their had been 369 planes on the allies side and John took part in this attack. Later, his brother had succeeded him and became the Martial of the Royal Air-Force, however after 27 days his brother was killed, and he temporarily filled his spot. John Salmond died April 16th, 1968. Georg von der Marwitz was a Prussian general, however he commanded many German armies. He and Ludendorff were the only German generals on sight during the battle of Amiens. He was born on July 7th, 1856. He had five kids and was married to Helene von Kameke. He died on October 27th, 1929. |
